Volunteer of the Week: Pat Harris

June 15, 2010

Each week, WJB profiles one of its volunteers as part of its commitment to recognizing all their selfless contributions to our cause. This week, our featured volunteer is Pat Harris.

One of the greatest strengths of a successful volunteer program is member-to- member recruitment. Many of our new volunteers find out about Wreckhouse Jazz & Blues through friendships with current volunteers. Pat Harris was one such recruit, who found out about the Festival vibe from former Volunteer of the Week Anna Power. During the 2009 Festival, Pat played a number of roles, including box office attendant, merchandise vendor and the ever-present floater. And now in 2010, she’s back for more!

Pat is also very active in other community organizations, helping make St. John’s a better place for everyone to live in. As an Ambassador for Cruise NL Pat helps welcome visitors to the city as they arrive via cruise ship (a role she must have great experience in, considering she’s just returned from a 28-day cruise herself!). Pat also puts her green thumb to use once a week at the Botanical Gardens, and has volunteered with Festival 500 as well.

Pat loves to travel! A full itinerary of her voyages is simply beyond the scope of this article. Suffice to say, she’s been to places many have never even heard of, and we envy her adventurous nature! Before retiring, Pat worked in the Nursing profession; she hails from New Chelsea, Trinity Bay.

So glad to have you back this year, Pat! You’re WJB’s Volunteer of the Week.
