ArtsSmarts application deadline extended to June 30, 2010

June 1, 2010

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) is accepting applications for the ArtsSmarts program.

Funded by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education’s Cultural Connections Strategy and the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, ArtsSmarts encourages an arts inspired method of teaching within schools. Through the 281 projects supported by ArtsSmarts over the past 12 years, artists have worked with teachers to integrate artistic activities into non-arts subjects of the school curriculum. They have also linked with community organizations to present their creations to the public. Over 45,000 students have already participated in ArtsSmarts, and have enriched their overall learning experience.

Schools, school boards, or groups of schools may apply to the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council for funds to operate an ArtsSmarts project. Applicants can submit only one application annually. Grants will cover professional and planning fees for artists, art supplies and materials, travel costs for artists, and other costs directly related to the project. ArtsSmarts will fund up to 80% of the overall project costs to a maximum grant of $5,500.

The ArtsSmarts application form is available on our website at http://www.nlac.nf.ca/grants/artsmarts_app.pdf . This writable PDF document can be completed online, but must be printed and submitted as a hard copy by mail or fax. It cannot be saved or submitted electronically.

For this year only, the deadline for ArtsSmarts applications is June 30, 2010 (extended from May 31, 2010).
