Simon Fisk, born November 27, 1970, is a jazz bassist/composer who has performed and recorded extensively since the mid 1990’s. He has worked primarily in the piano trio format through his career, though has very often ventured into larger group formats, or pianoless trio settings.

Fisk’s most consistent output over the last eight years has taken place in the trio, due in no small part to the rapport between the musicians, and the constant creative inspiration he receives from his bandmates. Since his debut recording in 2002 Fisk has released six CD’s on the Plunge Records label: ‘Trainwrecks’, ‘Intent’, ‘You and Yours’, ‘Calm Abide’, ‘Vague Hotels’, and most recently ‘Unless’. Fisk has also appeared on recordings with Chris Gestrin (Poor Boy, The Songs of Nick Drake, Songlines Recordings 2005), Gordon Grdina (Grdina Trio, Plunge Records 2003), Gerry Hebert Quartet (08), Keith Smith Trio (09) as well as a number of singer-songwriter records (Jennifer Lauren, One Trick Pony). Fisk’s release prior to “Vague Hotels”, found him in a quartet setting with Aaron Young – guitar, and Kenton Loewen – drums. The CD entitled ‘You and Yours’ was nominated for a WCMA award for outstanding jazz recording (2007) along with Fisk’s debut outing ‘Trainwrecks’ in 2002.

Simon has attracted a sizeable following over the years, one that has grown to expect an emotional, intense performance from Fisk and his band mates.
