2010 WIJBF Performer Profile: Kelly-Ann Evans

Newfoundland born entertainer Kelly-Ann Evans, is no stranger to any stage, be it soul or rock n’ roll, musical theater or gospel. Her voice has been compared with the likes of Anita Baker, Annie Lennox, Desiree and Oleta Adams. She’s been called “Newfoundland’s only Pop Diva”. Kelly-Ann was named 2005 Pop/Rock Artist and Female Artist of the Year by Music Newfoundland and Labrador for her debut solo CD-You Decide and was nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the 2006 Awards. Her 2007 Gospel record with fellow Newfoundland songstress Janet Cull received an East Coast Music Award nomination for “Gospel Recording of the Year” and awarded MusicNL’s “Gospel Artist/Album of the Year”. Kelly-Ann is so excited to be playing the Wreckhouse Jazz Festival this year in a number of different capacities. With a classical music degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, she attended the Sheridan College Musical Theater program and received the James Award for outstanding vocal achievement. Kelly-Ann will be a familiar face around this years Festival performing in Brama Brazil, Respect: A Tribute to the Women of Motown (which she co-produced) and with The Kelly-Ann Evans Band. Most recently she performed last season as a company member with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and also ensemble member and Killer Queen understudy with the original Canadian cast of We Will Rock You in Toronto.
