The Dogberries originated in 1995 when core members Jack Daw and Charlie Barfoot formed the band as a vehicle to perform their original compositions. Although eclectic in style, their original compositions have been described as “contemporary jazz folk” by some while others have revered to their music as “smooth jazz with a distinctive Newfoundland flavour”. The Dogberries first CD “Sun and Games” was nominated “Jazz group of the Year “during the East Coast Music Awards in 1999. Their second CD “Out of the Ashes” was also well received being nominated in blues category by the Music Industry Association in 2002. Both CD’s received considerable air play on local and national radio and TV stations. Over a decade has past since the inception of “The Dogberries”, and they continue to stay true to their quest to compose, record, and perform their unique style of music. The group have appeared on “Out of the Fog” , and are previous performers at the Wreckhouse International Jazz and Blues Festival.
