Volunteer of the Week

May 11, 2010

Taryn Stone

Each week, WJB profiles one of its volunteers as part of its commitment to recognizing all their selfless contributions to our cause. This week, our featured volunteer is Taryn Stone.

Taryn has an enthusiasm for life that you rarely encounter, and she has been sharing that enthusiasm with WJB for the past 5 years. “I love volunteering with (the WIJBF) because you get to meet great people and amazing musicians and jazz is my favorite genre of music”, she explains. Taryn has offered her support as a WJB driver, information representative, VIP host, and photographer (among many other roles). She’s a mainstay of our volunteer program, and in 2007 we awarded her the Service of Excellence Award.

Outside of the festival, it’s tough to keep up with Taryn. For the past 15 years she has played trombone with the CLB Regimental band; she is a Leader with Girl Guides of Canada and a Gold Award Achiever and Leader with the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. At 37 years young, Taryn is working on a Masters of Education (Post-Secondary Studies) and is a certified ship’s captain.

Taryn has a condition known as Tuberous Sclerosis, and she serves as the provincial contact for Tuberous Sclerosis Canada. May is Tuberous Sclerosis Month, and you can find our more about the condition here. We at WJB wish to convey our full support for Taryn on her journey to perfect health.

All the best, Taryn! We’re rooting for you, our volunteer of the week!
