Community Services Council Volunteer Week, April 18-24

April 12, 2010

In lieu of a volunteer of the week article this week, WJB is taking a moment to spread the word about its involvement with the Community Services Council’s Volunteer Week, beginning on Sunday April 18 and concluding on Saturday April 24. The theme of this year’s Volunteer Week is ‘Volunteers Connect Communities’.

On Monday, April 19 WJB will be participating in the Volunteer Expo, taking place in St. John’s at the Village Mall from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.  Come check out our volunteering table and meet our Volunteer Coordinator Adam Reid.  Bring a friend!  We’ll be there all afternoon recruiting and entertaining new volunteers – Executive /Artistic Director Kirk Newhook will be on the guitar laying down the groove.

On Wednesday April 21 the CSC will host the St. John’s Annual Volunteer Recognition Night, whereat WJB will be recognizing several of its volunteers for their outstanding contributions to our organization.  WJB is recognizing the following people/businesses:

Jim Price, Individual Category

Jim is the current president of the WJB Board of Directors and a long-time volunteer.

Kyla Bruff, Individual Category

Kyla has been volunteering at Wreckhouse International Jazz & Blues Festival events since 2005.

Rick Page & Susan Shiner, Family Category

Rick and Susan are never very far apart from one another as they contribute to our events’ success.

Signal, Media Category

Signal is an online community blog with voluntary contributors who have frequently reviewed and promoted WJB events.

On Thursday, April 22 WJB itself will be hosting its annual Volunteer Party, which will feature live music, eats provided by Boston Pizza, and lot more!  If you’re a WJB volunteer we hope to see you at Eastern Edge Gallery (72 Harbour Drive) at 5:30pm.
