Volunteer of the Week

April 6, 2010

Andrew Bown

Each week, WJB profiles one of its volunteers as part of its commitment to recognizing all their selfless contributions to our cause. This week, our featured volunteer is Andrew Bown.

Andrew has been volunteering with WJB since the festival was called the St. John’s Jazz Festival (from 2003 to 2007). Over his six-year tenure as a volunteer, he frequently helped us by managing tickets at the door and by selling our materials at the merchandise table.  Andrew’s experience as a musician came into play helping us manage our event stages, a role which was especially important in the early days of our organization.

Many of our audience members may also recognize Andrew’s name from the WIJBF marquee – as a jazz guitarist he has performed at our previous festivals.  You can check out some of his recorded material by visiting his myspace page (click here for more info).  In 2009, Andrew obtained a music degree from York University, studying under guitarist Lorne Lofsky.

When Andrew is not volunteering with WJB, he teaches music lessons at Music City.  This pretty much means that music is at the center of Andrew’s life – maybe that’s why he and WJB get along so well!

Rock on, Andrew!  You’re WJB’s volunteer of the week!
