Volunteer of the Week

March 9, 2010

Nauris Nikans

Each week, WJB profiles one of its volunteers as part of its commitment to recognizing all their selfless contributions to our cause. This week, our featured volunteer is Nauris Nikans.

Nauris’ contributions to the 2009 Wreckhouse International Jazz and Blues Festival were impressive!  As a first year WJB volunteer and new Canadian, Nauris jumped right in and remained on hand to pitch in wherever he could – on the door, as a runner, and snapping photographs of our events. Nauris was awarded the WJB’s Spirit of the Festival award in 2009 for his enthusiasm.

The knack Nauris displays for photography spills over into a host of other volunteering opportunities.  He has volunteered his photography skills with the Wallsaway Music & Arts Festival as well as the Rock Can Roll Festival.  Additionally, he played a project manager role with NLPMI Pandemic Planning in November and filled various positions at the 2009 St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival.

Nauris moved to St. John’s from Latvia at the age of 32.  He currently works at a Bed & Breakfast. You can check out some of Nauris’ work by clicking here.

We look forward to working with Nauris at this year’s Festival.  Thanks, Nauris!
