Volunteer of the week

March 2, 2010

Each week, WJB profiles one of its volunteers as part of its commitment to recognizing all their selfless contributions to our cause. This week, our featured volunteer is Rowena Williams.

Rowena is a long-standing volunteer with WJB. Her tenure as a volunteer extends back an impressive six years, back to when we were originally called the St. John’s Jazz Festival.  Over that time, Rowena has played a multitude of roles, including merchandise vendor, ticket vendor and box office attendant – in her words, “anything needing our help at the time.”  That dedication and commitment is instrumental to WJB’s success.

Rowena’s passion for volunteerism extends beyond her involvement with WJB.  Notably, she has demonstrated a keen interest in arts programming by way of here work with the Women’s Film Festival and the LSPU Hall.  Rowena’s enthusiasm shines when she welcomes visitors to our province as a cruise ship ambassador for the Department of Tourism. You’ll catch her this year volunteering with the Juno’s as well.

At 65 years old, Rowena is a dedicated employee of the Federal Government, where she has worked for 45 years.

Here’s to another six years working together, Rowena!  Thanks from WJB.
